With the European Copyright Directive now voted, attention is turning to its implementation at national level.

There is the promise of greater simplification and new possibilities for libraries, but this can only be realised with the right national laws. This is partcular the case for innovative provisions allowing libraries to digitise and make out-of-commerce works available.

To explore the new law, the Romanian Presidency of the European Union has organised a conference on the new Directive.

IFLA, represented by Nicoleta Rahme, Legal Counsel at the National Library of Romania, will underline how important the new rules are, and the need for these to be implemented in a way that promotes the underlying goal of the new laws – to boost access.
