IFLA IALM webinar

In this webinar, experts from the field will highlight five different aspects of music librarianship. The presentations will only cover a fraction of the wide scope of music libraries, but through these varied insights we hope to provide a good starting-point for anybody interested to learn more about this fascinating field of librarianship.

Music holds a unique position within libraries, as it is a language with its own notation system and its own forms of publication. Music libraries are typically providing access to sheet music, audio- and video-recordings – both in printed or digitized form – and, more increasingly, to music instruments and music technology. This is complemented by music literature, journals, and reference databases. Live music events, workshops and trainings are another important aspect in the portfolio of music libraries. Working in a music library, whether in a public, academic, orchestra, conservatory or broadcasting setting, therefore requires a specialized skill set and subject-specific knowledge.

This one-hour webinar is brought to you by NPSIG in joint collaboration with IAML, the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres. A Question and Answer session will follow the presentations.
