Get into Global Media & Information Literacy Week 2020

During Global Media & Information Literacy (MIL) Week, UNESCO and the Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) invite global stakeholders to come together to discuss and celebrate progress achieved towards MIL for all.

Global MIL Week 2020 will be 24-31 October. A fully virtual conference, hosted by the Republic of Korea, will centre on the theme: Resisting Disinfodemic: Media and Information Literacy for everyone and, by everyone

For libraries, attending the Global MIL Week Conference can help you find out more about the key discussions in MIL theory and practice, keep up to date on current challenges and approaches to MIL education, exchange good practice and get inspiration for new activities and ideas, advocate for the role of libraries in MIL education, and find out more about global (and local) stakeholders and projects that libraries can get involved in.

Get involved with a Side Event

Beyond attending the Conference, UNESCO and GAPMIL are inviting libraries around the world to get involved in Global MIL Week by holding side events. These events will be featured on the official UNESCO Global MIL Week website.

A side event can be any type of initative that engages an audience with media and information literacy. Events are encouraged to be virtual, and can be held at any time during the month of October.

For libraries, events might include:

  • Curating and sharing a selection of books, e-books, and children’s stories from your collection on topics related to MIL
  • Compiling educational resources into an online resource on MIL
  • Hosting a virtual event (live or pre-recorded) such as a webinar, panel discussion, quiz, or story-time
  • Engaging with your community on social media with a post raising awareness on MIL

Check out the Get Into Global MIL Week 2020 guide for low/no-cost side events that can help libraries plan an event to be featured on the Global MIL Map.

Events can be officially registered here.

Get in touch with IFLA to let us know that you would like to plan a side event. We are ready to support you. Email: claire.mcguire@ifla.org for more information.
