NPSIG objectives for 2017-18 are related to the following IFLA’s Strategic Directions 2016-2021 (Strategic Direction 1: Libraries in Society, Strategic Direction 2: Information and Knowledge, & Strategic Direction 4: Capacity Building.

This relation can be explained by NPSIG General objectives:

  • empowering new professionals to be involved in their national associations and with IFLA to become new local and international leaders (Key Initiatives: Advancing leadership, Strong library associations, and Enhanced regional presence)
  • connecting new professionals and new professionals supporters to share experiences, opportunities and make new friends and colleagues from all over the world, mainly through social media and online events (Key Initiatives: Changing attitudes and perceptions, Advancing leadership, and Enhanced regional presence)
  • offering first quality free training and knowledge exchange opportunities through online webinars, open programmes and satellite meetings (Key Initiative: A sustainable information environment, and Enhanced regional presence)

NPSIG has defined the following 5 objectives and projects 2017-18.

1. Give new professionals opportunities to share their ideas and identify new trending topics for the library world

  • Project: Organize IFLAcamp #6 in Kuala Lumpur (a two-day satellite meeting on August 22-23, 2018)

2. Organize events and sessions helping professionals design the future of their profession during IFLA WLIC 2018 in Kuala Lumpur

  • Project #1: Open session “Librarian Fashion” jointly with a section (MLAS, PLS – TBC)
  • Project #2: NPSIG annual Business meeting
  • Project #3: Participate in President’s session
  • Project #4: Unusual event such as Flashmob

3. Provide high level international reflection for new professionals around the world

  • Project: Webinar series “New Librarians Global Connection 2018 Edition”

4. Enhance NPSIG network coordination and volunteers participation in IFLA activities

  • Project #1: Define a denomination for NPSIG active volunteers
  • Project #2: Present the volunteers’ contribution on NPSIG webpage
  • Project #3: Create a discussion space for NPSIG volunteers
  • Project #4: Invite librarians during the IFLA WLIC 2018 Newcomers session to join the NPSIG Business meeting

5. Help local associations build new professionals networks in their countries

  • Project #1: Symposium of new librarians in Paris and Lyon, January 2018
  • Project #2: Serbian Library Association pre-conference workshop in Belgrade, December 2017
