Dear Friends and Colleagues,

IFLA Headquarters announced in a press release and email today, April 9, that the IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2020 has been cancelled. As they stated:

“The IFLA Governing Board and Irish National Committee have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC). Dublin will instead welcome the 2022 Congress.”

The full press release is also posted on the IFLA website: https://www.ifla.org/node/92996

Some points in the press release include:

  1. IFLA will be providing full refunds to those who have already registered for WLIC 2020.
  2. The cancellation makes the next Congresses all the more important.
  3. Preparations for next year’s Congress, WLIC 2021, are going well in Rotterdam.
  4. It is good that Dublin will host WLIC 2022, because as it turns out, New Zealand is unable to host the Congress at that time.

The Standing Committee will be meeting to discuss potential activities for the time before the next WLIC. It is a good idea to stay connected. We will report back from that meeting.

Please stay safe and healthy.

Cecilia
