IFLA ALP Project report: Regional Cooperation: Challenge and Opportunity

As the part of the 2012 IFLA ALP project for the Emerging and Transition region, Regional cooperation: challenges and opportunities, the first two-day workshop was held July 2-3 2012 at the National and University Library in Zagreb.

The workshop (2 days) was attended by 12 participants from four National Library Associations: (1) Bosnia and Herzegovina, (2) Croatia, (3) Slovenia and (4) Serbia.
Outcomes of the workshop will also be sent to the Montenegro Library Association. IFLA trainer Winnie Vitzansky (Denmark) led the workshop.

The first day of the workshop focused on leadership and the situation in regional associations. The second day of the workshop was aimed at exploring advocacy skills and planning for the final workshop to be held in Osijek, September, 2012. The Workshop was held from 9 am to 17 pm.

Interacting and working in small groups participants provided the opportunity to exchange professional experiences and establish contacts for further cooperation. All participants concluded that the workshop was very successful and has opened new perspectives for the development of regional cooperation in the field of Library Associations of South East Europe, especially in establishing the various cooperation agreements and participation in joint projects.

It is proposed to continue regional cooperation amongst the participating national associations on a regular basis, at least once a year.

Second workshop Osijek, September, 2012

The final workshop, which will be held at the 38th Assembly of Croatian Library Association in September of 2012, will be a pilot workshop in which participants will have the opportunity to present concrete plans for future regional cooperation.
