The Instituto Cervantes in Madrid included in the program of its meeting on "Development, Sustainability and Culture: the Social Role of Libraries" a presentation of the IFLA Environmental Sustainability and Libraries Special Interest Group.

In mid-December 2010, the Instituto Cervantes held at its Madrid headquarters the IIIrd Professional Meeting of the Instituto Cervantes Library Network.  The Instituto Cervantes is a public institution created for the promotion of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Its centers are present in the five continents, and these include 63 libraries, with collections that total more than 1.000.000 documents.

The meeting provided the opportunity for the SIG’s convenor Veerle Minner Van Neygen to present the group to a  gathering of Spanish colleagues, under the title ‘Sostenibilidad Medioambiental y Bibliotecas’. Un nuevo grupo de Interés Especial de la IFLA.‘

At the meeting, numerous participants signed up for subscription to the ENSULIB mailing list, and roughly half of those signaled their wish to become active with the group.
