IFLA's highly successful Building Strong Library Associations (BSLA) programme has been expanded through a series of workshops and projects at the regional level in Africa, Asia and Oceania, and Latin America and the Caribbean since 2014, now reaching more than 60 countries since the Programme began in 2010.
From 30 May – 2 June 2016 IFLA and the Philippine Librarians Association (PLAI) will host the Global BSLA meeting in Manila, Philippines.
The objectives of this meeting are to:
- Review and celebrate the outcomes and impact of the programme and projects from 2014 onwards
- Support networking between associations and activities to support continued collaboration after participating in BSLA
- Raise awareness about trends and factors that will influence the role of associations and potential for advocacy in the future
- Review the programme over its lifespan since 2010 to develop a future strategy and linkages with other IFLA programmes
The meeting will include workshops, practical activities and evaluation of the programme’s impact. Materials will be delivered from the BSLA programme, as well as IFLA’s advocacy initiatives. Participants will include representatives from current BSLA projects, past country projects, core trainers and BSLA advisors since the programme’s inception.
During the meeting, associations will identify their own needs for further activities and development, have the opportunity to share outcomes of their activities, and make plans for the future including sustainability and advocacy.
