Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals - an example from Uruguay

An event in Uruguay, led by civil society organisations and the United Nations, has started the process for the national implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The event had participation from members of the library community who raised the voice of libraries in this crucial debate. Special guests were, President Tabare Vazquez and the resident coordinator of the United Nations, Denise Cook. The event received much positive feedback in the press and although this was not organised by a library organisation, representation at high level events, like this one, does enable libraries to draw the attention of relevant policy makers to the importance libraries play in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on a national level. The IFLA Toolkit on Libraries and the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda helps to prepare librarians world-wide to engage with the discussion.
