Project outcomes

The project will:

  1. Organise a workshop to train library and information workers in basic association management skills to be used for the benefit of strengthening library associations in Kazakhstan. LARK will have access to the IFLA Building Strong Library Associations materials. The materials will be cascaded by workshop participants throughout Kazakhstan and its regions.
  2. Prepare a training manual and cascade method to continue the workshops and activities in Kazakhstan. Any further activities and workshops will be carried out using funding from additional sources other than ALP.

The project consists of the following:

One five day workshop on the topic of strengthening of library associations using the IFLA Building Strong Library Associations materials. The goal of the workshop is to strengthen the library associations of Kazakhstan through their unification into the Federation of library associations and establishments of the Republic of Kazakhstan. IFLA will work with LARK to assist them in selecting materials for use in the workshop.

Participants will be selected through questionnaires, and preference will be given to new librarians who have an interest in working with the association.

Preparation of a workshop manual using the Building Strong Library Associations materials, and make strategic plans to cascade the workshops throughout Kazakhstan using funding from LARK, regional libraries, and other funding sources.

The project will be evaluated by surveying and interviewing participants about their participation in the workshop, plans for cascade training throughout the country, and any subsequent involvement by workshop participants in the library association.
