Engaging with Embassies: An Opportunity for Libraries and Library Associations

Library associations and other institutions with a coordinating role are powerful means of strengthening national library fields. They can also build partnerships, not least with foreign embassies, as this briefing sets out.

While outreach by American embassies is relatively well known, they are far from the only country whose embassies can be useful partners for libraries.

From creating and equipping spaces to promoting events and exchanges, working with embassies can bring concrete benefits to libraries nationally.

Drawing on experience from Georgia, Croatia, Madagascar, Malawi and Chile, this brief looks at the reasons for engaging in partnerships, practical experiences, and offers some suggestions for how to create new collaborations.
