IFLA has provided input to a UNESCO consultation on Open Science, highlighting the need to ensure that Open Science brings benefits to all, and helps deliver solutions to key global challenges.

Following a decision at last year’s General Conference, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has launched work towards a recommendation on Open Science.

A first stage of this work is to seek the views of stakeholders globally in order to highlight priorities and challenges in realising this.

With libraries globally involved in efforts to promote openness, not just in research publication but throughout the research process, as a means of delivering the goal of universal and equitable access to information.

IFLA has therefore shared views, based on the experience of members of our advisory committees on Copyright and other Legal Matters and Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression. We are particularly grateful to Fiona Bradley and Susan Reilly for coordinating this work.
